They made us cry, they made us believe in eternal love! When it comes to movies, it is not always a ‘Happy Ending’! Come what may, they portrayed love on screen and taught us that it is important to experience the essence of love even if the couple involved did not get together at the end. From old to new here is the list of tear-triggering romances that failed in films yet passed in capturing our heart!

  1. 3

The cuteness of Dhanush and Shruti Haasan from school, college and later to marriage showed us the depth of characters and made us believe in true love. When the twist at the end revealed that Dhanush was no more and he had killed himself on the account of loving her too much made us cry knowing one person can love more than the other.

2. Mouna Ragam

Although it was a happy ending in the climax, the movie made us cry when the flirty and naughty pair of Revathy and Karthik were showed on screen in the first half. The scene when Revathy was waiting at the Registrar to get married and Karthik getting shot tugged at our hearts and filled our tissues with tears!

3. Raja Rani

Nobody could help crying when Nayanthara silently cried her heart out in the car with the father played by Sathyaraj cried with her. This was one romance that made us wonder can marriage really heal all wounds? In time it does.

4. Irandam Ulagam

The cutest of romances between Anushka Shetty and Arya and later the sudden and abrupt death of Anushka’s character makes us realize life is short and anytime anyone can go away; hug your loved ones close and never let them go!

5. Vinnaithandi Varuvaya

Only Gautham Menon can truly bring out the romantic side of Simbhu with this sweet and sad movie. Trisha shined as Jessie a character still memorable now, and the chemistry was just infectious that the romance seeped out of the screen and into our minds.

6. Punnagai Mannan

This movie had us crying from the beginning to the end! With not just one but two failed romances, it made us believe in love for the second time only for it die in the end. If you haven’t seen this one then shame on you!

7. 7G Rainbow Colony

This is the second movie on this list of Selvaraghavan the man who had earlier given the love failed film hits like Thulluvatho Ilamai and Kadhal Kondein. 7 G Rainbow Colony was in a totally different league with the death of one of the lead characters and life after death of a loved one.

8. Virumaandi

The king of romance Ulaganayagan is here on the list for the second time with Virumaandi, a action packed film with lots of violence but all behind love. The equation between Kamal and Abhirami shone on the screen and we could not help but feel sad for the two characters!

9. Thalapathy

Nobody, not even Superstar is immune to tragic romances. In this Mani Ratnam hit, Superstar falls in love with the humble and homely Shobana and she falls for him only to realize that their love can never make it. This one was very sad because it was the first time we realized superstar’s heart can be broken too!

10. Poove Unakkaga

We cannot not mention this Vijay movie here on the list! It was funny, it was sad and it was a whole lot of love. Vijay’s character literally went out of his way to help the love of his life join with her preferred choice of husband. When asked if he was going to marry again he firmly said no and though a happy ending was refused we still felt good for the experience of the movie!
