Surpassing her own records, Mirabai Chanu lifted 196 kgs and delivered India’s first gold. In a remarkable performance, she pulls a clean lift in all the three attempts, 80kg, 84Kg, and 86Kg! Also, she lifts more than double her weight (103Kg, 107Kg, and 110Kg), in which she wins, earning a Gold medal for the country.
It is the second medal for India in Commonwealth Games after Gururaj Poojary, a weightlifter who won silver in men’s 56Kg category. It is to be noted that the badminton champion P.V.Sindhu was the flag bearer in the opening ceremony which happened at Carrara Stadium, Australia.

The medals where an athlete is “Expected” to win are generally the toughest internally for the athlete. Many congratulations to #MirabaiChanu on a spectacular performance at @GC2018
