Is Superstar Rajinikanth Too Late: A Die-Hard Rajinikanth Fan Writes!

“Rajini saar, venam sarr!”

Written by Ramya Ashok Kumar

The world may have great mysteries like the Holy Grail and the Bermuda triangle, but we South Indians have an even greater unsolved mystery at hand- Will Rajinikanth be joining politics? For many years now we have been asking this question. Finally, after so many years later, we still are asking the same question and yet have received no confirming answer. Recently, the 66-year-old actor held a 5-day meet and greet with his fans and addressed them. He talked about his failed films and his upcoming ones, and most importantly, he spoke a lot about politics.

Apparently, the actor said, “If God wills it, I will enter politics tomorrow.” That got me thinking, how will Rajinikanth know if God is willing him to join politics? Perhaps just like how the ghost of Amma spoke to Paneerselvam in his dreams, will God command Rajinikanth in his dream too?

More importantly, when will tomorrow come? No offense to anybody, but the actor is already 66 years. By the time Rajini’s tomorrow comes, he is mostly going to be (excuse me for being blunt), even older. What Tamil Nadu needs is a young blood to take care of the administration, not aged people.

Before anybody gets offended, let me clear the air. Rajinikanth is one of my favorite actors. He has a charisma unmatched to anybody else. I am the type of person who will scream “Thalaivaa” unabashedly at his films. However, that does not mean I want him joining politics. Even if we are measuring experience with age here, Rajinikanth will not fit the bill. Rajinikanth neither has political experience, nor the energy to run Tamil Nadu’s politics.

Rajinikanth kept mentioning that he did not want to join politics, “but” if he did, he will change the system. *Sigh* I really hope he will make his mind. If he is going to take years for deciding whether to join politics or not, I wonder how long he will take for decisions regarding state affairs.

I am really glad to know that the Superstar wants to change the system and clean it, but that does not mean that everybody is meant for it. Take Cho Ramasamy for example. He was a mastermind and did not hesitate to talk his mind. However, he did not actively take part in politics. He may have been a Rajya Sabha MP, but when it came to Tamil Nadu politics, he stayed behind the scenes. He gave his wise counsel to Jayalalitha and was her trusted advisor.

A wise man need not always join the battle on the grounds. He can sit at home and still be useful. Shakuni was of more use in coming up with tactics than battling on the field. Likewise, Rajinikanth too would prove more useful in being a support for a better, younger and more efficient candidate.

Hopefully, God will let Rajinikanth know that he is not needed in our warped politics. It’s already too confusing to keep track of the chief ministers (is it Edappadi Palanisamy or Sasikala or Panneerselvam?). We definitely do not need the Superstar to join the muddle as well. I would like to say just this to the great actor, “Rajini saar, venam saar!”
