Indian Women’s Hockey Team Make History Despite Losing To Ireland

There’s a winner in all of them!

The Indian women’s hockey team lost to Ireland in the first quarter-final of the Women’s Hockey World Cup, with the score of 1-3. While India lost, it was still a moment of history for them as it had been over 40 years since India had gone close to the semi-final position. They had finished fourth in 1974 and seventh in the 1978 edition of the World Cup. On July 31, it was a moment of pride for the Indian women’s hockey team as they reached the quarterfinals of the World Cup.

The only time India had managed to enter the semi-finals was back in 1974 in Mandelieu, France where they eventually finished fourth.

India’s face-off with Ireland, another team that were considered underdogs, was a nail-biting one with only a single goal by Reena Khokhar from India. Ireland’s defence proved to be hard to beat, with even penalty shots for India proving futile.

However, wishes still poured in for the Indian hockey team.
