Nagamani, a resident of Padmavati, in a horrific incident killed her newborn girl child after her husband Ramavath Jayaram threatened to divorce her if she gave birth to another daughter. The couple was later arrested by Police of Nalgonda District. The woman is of tribal origin and the area Padmavathi is a tribal hamlet of the Devarakonda block in Nalgonda.

The girl child who was born earlier this month was fed milk laced with pesticides. The baby was Nagamani and Ramavath’s third girl child. The first one is 5-years-old and the second child died after she was born. Initially, the newborn was taken to the hospital where she battled for her life for four days after which she died. The doctors grew suspicious of her cause of death and that’s when the investigators found out that she was killed by her own parents.

The investigations revealed that the woman killed the child as her husband had threatened to divorce her and marry another woman if she delivered another girl child.
