There was a time in Tamil cinema, where only two heroines ruled. They were the only heroines who had introduction song, just like their male counterparts. These two women set amazing goals. If you take a keen look, you would notice they did not colour or set their hair every time, they kept it natural, they hardly wore nail polish, they didn’t put hours of makeup and they never gave themselves to body shaming. Simran and Jyothika were superstars of the late 90’s and early 2000’s. They didn’t hesitate to partner in a movie, even when they were queens of the Sourthern film industry.  They worked with every leading hero and upcoming heroes where their role was substantial. (12B for example).

However, one of these leading ladies didn’t get a chance to work with the legendary director Mani Ratnam. She has spoken about it in few of her interviews.  Although Jyothika worked in his production in Dum Dum Dum, she didn’t work in his direction. Simran worked with the director in Kannathil Muthamittal. However, Jyothika’s long term desire comes true. She has signed a project with Mani Ratnam which is expected to be the Director’s next. In her Interview recently with Indiaglitz, she revealed the news that she has signed a project with Mani. Jyothika has also shared many other exclusive details about the second innings of her career, including her film  ‘Nachiyaar’ directed by Bala in which she stars opposite G. V. Prakash Kumar.

After 36 Vayadhinile, Magalir Mattum will be Jyothika’s second movie post her comeback in films. Besides Jyothika, Magalir Mattum also features Bhanu Priya, Urvashi and Saranya Ponvannan. The title of this film was lent from Kamal Haasan who had produced the film in 1994 which starred Revathy, Urvashi, Rohini and Nassar, and was directed by Singeetham Srinivas Rao.

Magalir Mattum has Jyothika playing a unique role, directed by Bramma. The film is produced by Jyothika’s husband Suriya. Magalir Mattum is all set to be released on September 15th, 2017 worldwide.
