After 75 days of battle, Tamil Nadu’s most loved ‘Amma’ breathed her last at 11.30 pm on December 5. Millions of supporters, fans, followers and the Opposition leaders are pouring in to pay their last respects to the late CM Jayalalithaa in Chennai. The city streets are filled with sorrow, tears and a feeling of loss.

News channels across the country have been airing their interviews with the late CM, as a tribute to her legacy. However, ‘Amma’ was not only apprehensive in giving interviews but had also kept a safe distance from the media over the years.

In one of the most and probably the only candid interview she’s ever given was to Simi Garewal in 1999. In her rendezvous she spoke about how her actress mother pressurized her in becoming an actress, how her mentor, the late CM and legend MGR mentored and pushed her into the big world of politics and how she had a great crush on Bollywood legend Shammi Kapoor. Not only that, the former actress also sang her favourite song, “Aaja sanam madhur chandni mein hum” on the show and stole our hearts.
