According to reports, Manua Majumdar (28) married Anupam Sinha (36) a year before. However, just after her marriage she began a relationship with her college mate, Ajit Roy (26). On May 3, Anupam was found murdered in his house in Barasat’s Hridaypur area.
Manua reportedly scripted his murder and her plans were extremely gory. Ajit hit Anupam on the head with an iron rod and then slashed his veins with a knife. However, since Manua could not be present during his murder, she made Ajit shove a rod in Anupam’s mouth so as to hear his dying screams on the phone.
After murdering the 36-year-old man, Ajit cleaned up the apartment and the next morning he took a bath in the Ganges after discarding his clothes and Anupam’s phone.
The police immediately suspected foul play when they saw Anupam’s ring taken from his finger, but left near the body, reported The Hindustan Times. No criminal would ever take a ring and leave it in the crime scene. Later, Ajit revealed to the police that he removed the ring because he could not stand to see a ring bought by Manua on Anupam’s fingers.
The whole case is extremely messed up. Ratri Roy, a homemaker from South Kolkata, asked, “If Manua and Ajit wanted each other so badly, they could have simply opted for divorce and started afresh. Why did they have to murder a hard-working man who wanted a family?”
Even though the case seemed difficult to solve at the beginning, the police solved it and arrested Manua two weeks later. “Initially we thought it was another extra-marital affair gone wrong. We see many such crimes these days. But this case is a shocker for us,” said a police officer handling the investigation.
When Manua was produced before court on Saturday, many shouted abuses at her and criticized her lawyer for defending her case. Samir Ganguly, a retired Kolkata Police deputy commissioner said, “I probed numerous murder cases but this one stands out.”
The most shocking part was Manua’s cool attitude towards the whole issue. Despite people shouting at her, she could not see what the fuss was about.
